PCCP (Pallisa Children's Concern Project)
About: Founded in 1999, Pallisa Children's Concern Project (PCCP) is a community-based organisation in Budaka District, Eastern Uganda, supporting disadvantaged children and their families. It began by caring for children affected by the Lord's Resistance Army conflict and later set up Naugalo Primary School, which today serves more than 250 children a year with education, care and food. PCCP also offers families training in farming and livestock rearing, health support and counselling.
Project 1: In-calf heifers for vulnerable families
Objective of the project: Give in-calf crossbreed heifers to vulnerable households caring for orphans in Kameruka Sub-County. Alongside the animals, funding pays for veterinary care and training for families. The milk improves children's nutrition, and families earn income by selling the surplus. Each family passes its first female calf on to another household, so the project keeps reaching new families after the funding ends.
A total of USD 63,000 was allocated to this project.
Project 2: Classroom furniture for Naugalo Primary School
Objective of the project: Give pupils who now sit on the floor or on broken benches proper desks, and give teachers tables, chairs and storage. Local carpenters make the furniture, creating jobs in the community. The aim is better concentration and attendance for at least 200 pupils.
A total of USD 6,000 was allocated to this project.
RYSA (Runda Youth Sports Association)
About: Founded in 1996, the Runda Youth Sports Association (RYSA) is a community organisation in the urban slums of Githogoro and Mji wa Huruma in Nairobi. It works to reduce poverty through sports, education, health and environmental programmes, run largely by volunteers. With support from the Trolltech Foundation, RYSA has set up the RYSA Centre and the Learning Resource and Recreation Centre, a library and safe community space for children and young people.
Objective of the project: Strengthen the volunteers who run RYSA's programmes through the Capacity Building and Leadership Strengthening Initiative (CABLI). Funding covers training in leadership and management, football coaching up to CAF C level, refereeing, first aid, and photography and videography, along with a camera and live-streaming equipment. It also pays for the 2025 and 2026 student mentorship camps, league participation for the girls' and boys' youth teams, football equipment, a new girls' washroom block at the library, and solar power for both RYSA facilities to cut electricity costs.
A total of USD 39,902 was allocated to this project.
MCODE (Mission for Community Development)
About: Founded in 2009, Mission for Community Development (MCODE) is a non-profit organisation in Buikwe District, Uganda. It works mainly with female-headed households, vulnerable women and girls in rural communities. Its work covers education for vulnerable children, environmental protection, clean water, health, and sustainable organic farming that helps families earn a steady income. With support from the Trolltech Foundation, MCODE has already provided biosand water filters to more than 2,000 households.
Project 1: Biosand water filters for Busagazi Island
Objective of the project: Bring safe drinking water to women and low-income households in Busagazi, a fishing community on an island in Najja Sub-County. Waterborne disease is common there, and with almost no firewood available, families struggle to boil their water. Households are organised in groups of ten and trained to build and use biosand filters. The filters are made from local sand and gravel, purify up to 20 litres an hour without boiling, and last at least 15 years. This cuts disease, firewood use and smoke in the home.
A total of USD 30,000 was allocated to this project.
Project 2: Woodsaver cookstoves and woodlots
Objective of the project: Cut firewood use, indoor smoke and deforestation in rural households and schools. Community members are trained to build efficient cookstoves from local materials like clay and anthill soil. The stoves cook several dishes at once and send smoke out through a chimney. The project also plants trees to establish woodlots, giving families a sustainable source of fuel.
A total of USD 22,000 was allocated to this project.
Project 3: Income generation for MCODE's self-reliance
Objective of the project: Make MCODE less dependent on external funding by growing Habanero and Cayenne hot peppers for sale, in the two greenhouses the Trolltech Foundation helped fund and in open fields. Funding covers drip irrigation, planting pots, a sterilisation system, organic seeds, fertilisers and pest control, a low-cost charcoal cooler for storing the harvest, and technical staff and training. MCODE aims to cover at least 55% of its own costs through income it generates itself.
A total of USD 17,556 was allocated to this project.
